Furbo VIP Community Poll: CBD for Dogs

What do you do when your dog is anxious or stressed?

Anxiety and stress is common in dogs, and can present in many different ways. Between 20-40% suffer from separation anxiety, and 32% of dogs experience noise sensitivity. Some signs that your dog is anxious include: shaking, pacing, whining or barking, and changes in appearance. It’s never easy to see your dog experiencing discomfort, but there are different ways dogs can experience relief from separation anxiety, noise sensitivity, or other specific fears.

Vets have suggested that CBD (cannabidiol) can be a great option for all sorts of ailments for dogs, including psychological problems like anxiety. CBD is a natural ingredient in cannabis that can alleviate pain and anxiety and does not cause a high, unlike the psychoactive ingredient known as THC. A study done by the Center for Canine Behavior Studies found that 51% of pet owners have used CBD to treat their pets.

We polled our own Furbo community on the use of CBD for their furbabies, and discovered that many pet parents have benefitted:

How does the Furbo community use CBD for their dogs?

40% of respondents said they use CBD products to help with specific fears, such as loud noises like thunder and fireworks.

21% reported using CBD to alleviate separation anxiety, one of the most common issues for dogs.

14% said that CBD helped to keep their dog calm while at the vet, which can be a fraught experience for many a pup.

If there is a situation where you know your dog will be anxious, a CBD oil or treat can be a great way to keep them calm and happy during a vet visit, or a thunderstorm.

One Furbo community member said, “It helps my dog with grooming, loud noises, and joint pain.”

Benefits can range from CBD balms and oils that are applied to hot spots and itchy skin, to chews and tinctures. Remember, it’s always best to consult with your vet and see which options are best for you and your dog's health!
